Edinburgh, when it rains it pours
Four nights ago I got back from Barcelona and haven’t been even slightly tempted to go to a gig in Edinburgh since. Tonight though there are three similarly guitar bands from Glasgow that I most definitely would go see playing here. It’s an absolute pain in the arse and personally I made my decision weeks ago but you really cannot lose.
Baby Strange – Sneaky Pete’s
Perhaps the band I’m least familiar with of the three but I seen the band at Detour’s Wee Jaunt back in December and along with Cutty’s Gym and Carbs they ignited what had been a relatively cold and dull time into a hugely enjoyable trip. Support comes from Vladimir and Future Glue.
Honeyblood – Limbo at The Voodoo Rooms
Of the three mains bands mentioned Honeyblood have probably come the furthest since I last seen them. Now signed to Fat Cat and gearing up for a UK tour tonight they’ll be playing for expert curators Limbo at The Voodoo Rooms with The Duke, Detroit and My Electric Love Affair.
PAWS – The Wee Red Bar
The two bands above may be excellent but it’s hard to compete with who I reckon are my #1 and #4 favourite bands in the world. PAWS and Meursault promises to be excellent and there’s not much I really need to say at this point other than I opened my copy of Youth Culture Forever last night and it’s everything I could possibly have hoped and more. This year has also technically seen three Meursault albums being released and they’re very much on form.
