JFLTI: Wavves – V
V is the unsurprisingly fifth album by Noise rockers Wavves. After their collab with Cloud Nothings earlier in the year, V is a surf infused scream at the skies. An album of summer anthems for emo kids, released in the autumn. The album kicks the teeth out of the listener and then makes you feel happy about it. Single Way Too Much is very much a throwback to King of The Beach, an apologetic lament for wasted time, the guitar is grungy and raw with the vocals worming their way into your ears. On the whole, V is very catchy, elegant in its simplicity, and fringing on late nineties pop-punk. It doesn’t push any boundaries that Wavves haven’t pushed before but the formula works and it’s a very decent listen.
